16 December 2007
A beautiful day welcomed both sets of Under 14’s and the kick off was delayed to allow a final player for the visitors to arrive (a Medway Player lent the latecomer a pair of shorts and so the game began).
Medway started brightly with some excellent work by the forwards, in particular Tom W supported well by Ben L and these players took the ball deep into the Old Colfeians defensive area. Sustained pressure did not result in points for Medway who continued to play very enterprising Rugby.
The Old Colfeians fall back (an exceptionally talented player) then collected the ball deep in his twenty-two and ran the length of the pitch to score a try.
The pattern was then repeated with Medway putting much pressure on with excellent continuity with the ball in hand only for the ball to spill, the Colfeians fallback to collect it and again ran the length of the pitch to score a try both of which he converted to make it 14 points to nil.
The second half then saw Medway consider their sterling work and attack, attack, attack. The pressure was rewarded by a try from Tom W to make it five points to fourteen and then a further try fell to Jake with neither being converted, ten points to fourteen.
The closing stages of the game saw Medway attack the Old Colfeians with Dominic and Aaron trying to score out wide but the Colfeians line did not look like breaking.
The final move of the game saw the Colfeians fullback (who in the writers opinion will receive high representative honours) collect the ball and again score a try that was simply exceptional.
Medway Under 14’s were congratulated by all the spectators the Coaching staff and the old Colfeians on a super display of Rugby and Medway look towards next seasons fixture with some hope as the same fullback scored six tries the previous season, only three tries today and who knows what next season will bring.
